How to style your denim shorts this summer – Outfit of the Day!
Denim Shorts shout out summer like nothing else. There are just so many ways to wear your denim shorts that its pretty easy to style and super comfortable in these hot weather, moreover its airy and best for your summer beach holidays. Which is why a nice pair of blue denim shorts is one of my summer fashion must haves. If they are ripped, the better! Today’s OOTD is everything about the summer fashion essentials, right from the ripped denim shorts to the breezy plaid blouse with a sexy back, the pompom tie-ups and reflective sunglasses. All these things put together calls for a rocking resort summer look. This look is the second in my series of Summer Look Book 2018, if you have missed out on the first look, the Summer Dress, you can click the link here.
While the Summer dress was a complete bohemian look, this one is more of boho-chic with a contemporary back cut-out plaid blouse paired with ripped denim shorts and vibrant pompom tie-up sandals. The matching plaid bow hairband gives the required sophistication to the otherwise wild look and everything put together is my idea of a stylish summer outfit.
Just like my earlier post, even this look was shot way back in march 2017 as a part of my Summer look of previous year, but it only made up to the blog this year. I for one do not regret the delay even a bit as I think all of the outfit looks curated are evergreen ones and totally fall in the list of my summer fashion essentials. I for one do not believe in investing in too many clothes and thus repeating outfits and mix and match is totally my thing. This is another reason why this look is so special for me as I have styled my denim shorts with a twist, swapping a normal t-shirt or a crop top for this breezy plaid summer tunic or blouse that has a super sexy back cut-out. This top is thrifted at just 150/- bucks from one of the stalls at Ferguson college road market.
The ripped denim shorts are a steal deal for 200/- bucks from hill road bandra bought two years back (yes you heard me right!) If you have not yet invested in a good pair of blue ripped denim shorts, its time you do it. These are one of the summer staples and there is so much you can do with them.
Denim shorts can be worn with almost everything including your long capes, jackets, blazers, regular t-shirts, basic shirts, printed tops, blouses and crop tops. Layering is the key and if you get that right I swear you can wear the same shorts for years together without anyone doubting it ever! Most important tip while buying denim shorts is that it has to be of a little stretchy material and of soft jeans fabric not a thicker version. Also it should fit you properly, however the stretch-fit will take care of any changes in your body weight. The length of the shorts is really crucial, it should not be too long and not too short that it hides under most of your tops. Those hot pants can then be used with very limited tops or rather crop tops only. I for one prefer folded hemlines for my shorts as they not only look cute but give a symmetry to my silhouette. Also there are always chances I open the hems up when I feel like re-utilizing them as longer shorts.
While I like little bit of ripping here and there I do not prefer completely destroyed or torn look in my shorts where the under-pockets are seen. I somehow feel those designs limit the utilitarian aspect of the ordinary denim shorts and I’d rather go for an ordinary one that can be used numerous times in different ways.
In this particular look I have styled my denim shorts with a cute bow blouse and pompom sandals which gives a little boho vibe to the outfit. Downplaying on the accessories part, I have worn simple stud earrings giving the pompoms all the attention they deserve! I have kept my makeup simple with just a pop of pink lipstick.
The back of the blouse sort of seals the deal putting this one in the list of the most hottest summer outfits of mine in 2018. A sleek ponytail is all that was required to complete the look.
