Indian saree are the most versatile and empowering and there is nothing more empowering than recreating these western world princess looks with saree. These looks were created during the #coronalockdown but due to work never went up the blog. Post corona as we start getting back to the physical world, one thing that we all know is of dire importance in fashion industry is #sustainablefashion! Sustainable styling, re-wearing and repeating has to be our mantra as we witness global economy crisis and big time low in fashion industry recreating hand loom and bridal sarees can become a huge resurrection.

I am styling my Wedding Reception saree to create this Desi Disney Princess bridal look. This saree has a choli blouse which gives a sexy back saree look from behind. If Princess Jasmine was an Indian, she sure would had worn a saree and the saree drape would have been an unconventional one.

In 2019 Aladdin, the Princess Jasmine Costume has seen a lot of traditional influence from the turkish and arabic culture. Naomi Scott wears elaborate gowns with ethnic work that are starkly different from the princess of the animated movie version. The new princess jasmine is not only in her harem pants and a bikini top but she covers herself up well with net bodice and a head trail that’s missing in the older costume. I preferred creating this look with the saree. This is to emphasize how Saree is a quintessential garment that can be worn in many ways. This desi princess looks recreated with saree is to promote Indian handloom and bring back saree as the modern girl’s attire.

Saree Lehenga to Princess Jasmine Costume
This saree style of Indian Princess jasmine requires a saree and a matching choli blouse with petticoat. Interestingly the saree that I picked up is actually a lehenga saree and doesnt have material for pleats its a kind of unevently cut cloth that forms a lehenga when wrapped around.

This was the very reason I bought this saree for my reception as it was a saree essentially but looked like a lehenga and was ready to wrap. Thus when time came to restyle it into different drapes it was difficult to bring any symmetry to the restyled looks as the saree itself was asymmetrical.

Hence I used the petticoat here and pinned it at the back from center to give the harem pants look. I draped the remaining saree in a way that it gave the Jasmine princess attire look. Pleating the saree pleats at the back leaving both ends of saree open, I took the pallu from back to cover my head and bring in front to create the dupatta whose both ends I tied up in my fingers.
