Latest DIY Suit Design – Frill Dupatta Pattern
Be it a designer Wedding lehenga or Saree, the current trend in Indian traditional dress is to have embellishments like frills, ruffles, feathers and tassels. Well this trend in Traditional outfits started pretty much a year ago and is still going strong. However sometimes, it does go overboard. But so far I have only seen praises for these designer traditional outfits with embellishments. One of the major trend in Indian traditional dress is the frill Saree or the Frill Dupatta Design.

Last year this time, I came across a beautiful reindeer dupatta design, It was actually a reindeer print material that I decided to convert into a designer dupatta by adding an off-white frill to its all corners. Taking inspiration from the designer frill sarees from the fashion ramp that season, I decided I would create such dupatta instead (the frill dupatta design was yet uncommon then). I actually made a complete salwar suit design based on one dupatta material. So that’s how I got idea for my new salwar suit pattern.

Suit Design
I purchased an off-white material with grey and pink tree print to pair with my reindeer print dupatta and created a new suit design. For the neck pattern of the suit, a line of cotton tassels (made from a grey colour material from Mom’s old stash) were added. The new suit design was completed with tiny frills at the end of long sleeves and single frill at the hem of suit. This was from the suit material as the grey material wasn’t enough.

Going with the current trend, I decided to create a frill dupatta design by adding ruffled lace all around the reindeer print dupatta. Now since this trend was very new then, I couldn’t get my hands on a ready made frill for the dupatta. Well, I took a matching off-white material in two meters and asked my masterji to make a jhul or Frill out of it. I then told him to place it all around the dupatta to create the frill dupatta design.

The masterji was giving me wierd looks when I asked him to make this. He was like why would you want to add a frill of saree petticoat as a dupatta border. He infact suggested me to buy a fancy lace rather. But I was adamant that I wanted a frill dupatta design and he should just do what I am telling. (I guess it was a first frill dupatta design for him!)

Now that my new suit design was ready and the frill dupatta pattern was done, I was confused what to do for the bottoms. Since I had already invested so much in creating the suit and frill dupatta pattern. I decided to give a miss to making new bottoms and paired one of my palazzo pants instead. Later I paired this same suit with dull gold cigarette pants from another dress. I plan to invest in a grey leggings later that can be used with two three of my salwar kameez including this one.
