Styling Mom’s old Satin silk Saree as Plazo Saree
Today’s Outfit of the Day is a DIY Plazo Saree or the Palazzo Saree. Palazzo’s are becoming the ‘IT’ clothing of the Fashion Industry and have been embraced very well in the local household as well. I see Women of all ages wear Palazzo pants due to its sheer comfort, style and versatility. The latest fashion fad on the Block is Plazo Saree and looking at its experimental style and keeping comfort first its the best of both worlds for Today’s Women. Palazzo Sarees have been trending a lot and I am seeing many Women trying this new trend.

The concept really intrigued me and I wanted to give Palazzo Saree a try as well. But considering my “no buying new” new year resolution and total lack of place to keep new outfits, I decided I will revive one of my Mom’s old Sarees into Plazo Saree rather than Buying one.

Here I am re-wearing my Mom’s very old Satin silk saree in deep maroon with a zardosi Border. This Zardosi work saree is part of her heirloom collection. Basically one of her aunt’s saree that was given down to her and is really precious for both of us. I however like this saree especially for its colour and smooth texture. Every time I have donned this saree it felt like a smooth satin is being wrapped around me.
Plazo Saree – Pick a easy to drape material

Which is another reason why I chose to restyle this saree as my plazo saree. This is super easy to wrap and since I was trying this new saree drape for the first time I wanted something that I could easily carry. Another reason to pick this saree was that out of all the palazzo pants that I have this maroon palazzo are my favorite and also look good on me. The saree went very well with the palazzo pants.
Plazo Saree – Match your saree with Palazzos

The trick to a successful DIY Palazzo saree is to match your Saree with Palazzo pants and stick to solid colours if you are a beginner. I could have easily worn a matching maroon crop top with Saree but I wanted to break the monotony and be a little experimental. So I wore a Blue Crop Top with this Maroon Saree.
Plazo Saree Drape

When draping this palazzo Saree, start from the back on your left side. Take small ghagra style pleats till you reach your right side at the back. Then you make your normal saree pleats and tuck them inside the palazzo pants with your pleats facing backside.

Remember since this is a plazo Saree, its just supossed to be half of the actual saree but since we are doing a DIY our saree will be more longer. The Saree hack here is to keep the pallu as long as possible and pleat the pallu in advance so you have a rough idea how much material will be left for you to tuck in the back pleats. We will drape the saree only at the back, keeping the front open to show the palazzo pants and the pallu pleats that will have a beautiful fall as you can see in the pictures.

From the right side back take the pallu on your left shoulder and let it fall back. Make sure the back of your pallu touches your ankle so you have ample material covered in the pallu. The statement about this modern drape is in the fall of a pallu, just like a trail of a gown. Pin your saree properly and you are done! Your DIY Plazo Saree drape is ready. This is a great way to reuse your old saree and restyle them into new modern Saree drapes.

I completed my Palazzo Saree Outfit of the Day look with a maroon and gold smokey eye makeup and a plum lipstick from my mix and mingle sephora lip collection. A chunky statement necklace and matching earrings completed my Saree Look! Do let me know in the comments below, if you would like me to review my old sarees in fun new ways like this.
Till then, Keep Restyling!
