Fashionmate got the privilege to Interview one of the leading Footwear designers in India, Swati Mehrotra , who owns a popular Footwear brand “SwatiModo”. SwatiModo has to its credit various genre of designed and custom-made footwear to suit the taste of Women of all ages and all regions.. Her Collection varies from her earlier Zodiac Signs inspired footwear to the recently launched Juxta-posed Collection..She is not only a Celebrity footwear designer and Run-way designer but she designs custom-made shoes for women of all ages as well!!
Recently She showcased her Collection at Rajasthan Fashion Week 2012, which took place in Jaipur along with Poonam Patel’s (Vadodara based Designer) collection…So without any further do.. lets hear it from the Women Herself!!!
Here are the Questions we asked and Swati Replied to them all very earnestly..:)
1. What Inspired you start your own shoe-brand, what was the concept and how did it come about?
I always Wanted to create a product that would depict ones character or personality!and what better that can be other den shoes..:)During my course tenure i came across instances where ladies were never satisfied with there available styles that gave birth to SWATIMODO customisd shoe boutique.
2. Share with us your experience as a shoe designer so far.
I am into designing since the age of 12 when i started designing for my dolls and dreamt of being a designer:)shoes probably happened to me like an accident lawlz..and i started making shoes from the age of 21 🙂 when i was in FDDI along with my course i made few special needs shoes and prob that was the seed towards this thought of customized shoes… Being a shoe designer not only satisfy my creative urge but even i food for my logic and “ever working” logic brain…..its fun,challenging and super exciting for me.
3. What is the best part of your profession, what do enjoy the most about being a shoe designer?
Ummmm…..as a customised shoe designer best part is i have no barriers,no limitations and i cn add wings to my and my client dreams…:) i love meeting new interesting people everyday:)
4. Tell us about your participation at various fashion events as designer.
Every event has been very different and special to us…we try our best to offer something new and different to our clients in all activities we plan….by far it has been wonderful and great experiences from fashion weeks to fleas to galleries display!!
5. What are the latest trends in shoes and what all variety of designs does your brand offer??
Seasons hottest trend is transparent shoes:)this season we have launched our new range”juxta posed” inspired by *Nandita’s Wonder-Lab* focusing on eastern ceremony. The collection is Artorial -Beautifying the everyday as well as well as Idiomatic- by mixing the past with present. Juxtaposed just like in Van Gogh and Gauguin era focus on the “Premium Normality” . It exaggerates the Future Classics/ Luxury/ New Basics & Authenticity by
bringing modern-mundane together.
6. How is SwatiModo different from others?
Swatimodo is a dream machine…if you can dream it we can make it:). At swatimodo we treat each shoe as piece of art…and carefully craft it as per individual needs …
7. Which celebrity is a regular fan of SwatiModo?
My first client was Liza verma(ex miss india)and ila Arun:)guess they are my first and fav:)shibani kashyap too flaunts Swatimodo…Iris maitey and hasleen kaur ….pheww i hardly rem…we did shoes for various pagents,models,shows etc….even priyanka alva wore swatimodo pair…but i would rather say my each client is no less than a celebrity to me:):)
8. How much have you accomplished as a footwear designer according to yourself? Where do you see your brand say 5 years from now?
Phewww as a designer i feel each day is new learning a new accomplishment…i live life day by day and i realy cant plan that long….am a multitask-er and accomplish most in unplanned pressure way:p…..and on top of that am a not easy contended soul 😉 so i guess i have a longggg way to go to be able to say “thats accomplishment”and over next 5 years ummm i guess i aim to satisfy maximum shoe fetish:):)
9. What would you like to say to our Readers?
Be fashionably comfortable,don’t be scared to experiment this season shop for loadz of colour stilletoes with platforms,wedges etc:)
