Designer Asa Kazingmei’s collection at lakme fashion week
Well known for his raw and out of the box looks, designer Asa Kazingmei came up with a new warrior theme this season at Lakme Fashion Week Winter Festive 2014 named ‘Changvei’ The theme of this collection is derived from the Old Naga World & Naga Warriors with whom the designer is closely associated. The Changvei was used as a shield during the time of war to be protected from any kind of sharp weapon. According to the designer the world today has lot of unrest, discrimination and human fighting human. Asa has taken inspiration from Changvei to give a fighting spirt and spirit of hope to the world in form of a shield, and that is what reflects in his collection.
The collection uses touch textures like leather, thick denim & rivets in darker hues to bring out the toughness in the collection. To bring about the modern day warrior look, Asa has used a lot of studs, chains, boots and quirky head accessories in shape of spears and old world weapons.
The silhouettes are armour like, structured and form fitting as if to protect oneself. The shiny leather peplum with corset and sheer panel skirt brought out a cutting edge figure.
The Gothic style androgynous stern looks were balanced out by free flowing skirts and thigh high slits. The variation bring out expression of liberalism even during the times of adversity bringing in hope and happiness reflected in beauty and elegance. The asymmetric pieces put together by zips and harnesses was a new element in the collection.
I totally love how Asa has brought out the definition of modern man by using harness and warrior boots in a pant suit adorned with a sleek leather tie. This brings out the two contradictory worlds together. All of his costumes contains heavy layering and pleats. The use of chains, harness, rivets, studs and various appliques add to the warrior look.
