How to drape a single saree in eight different stylish ways!
When it comes to hopping from one function to another in this wedding season, nothing is as versatile and stylish as a simple saree. Saree is one fashion staple that can never go wrong and investing in one is a must for every girl! I personally am a great fan of this nine yards that instantly transforms you from simple to sexy and glamorous, Of course if draped properly! Saree draping is the trickiest part and the reason why most women refrain from wearing it on regular basis. I for one, am not comfortable wearing those stiff sarees where you have to pleat the pallu diligently coz frankly speaking patience and time is something that I totally lack. However I love wearing saree and there is so much that you can do with a simple saree, its one outfit that can be draped differently to give you completely different look and thus is pocket saving too! And the best part is that its never out of trend. Recently I have come to love this simple bright pink saree that I reviewed in my earlier post, the plus point being its light, its can be easily draped and it doesn’t crumple. I have come up with a list of eight different ways to drape this stylish outfit and here it goes.
The Front Pallu style

One of my favourite is the front pallu drape that gives a very contemporary look. Apt for functions like reception and bridal shower the front pallu gives this traditional ethnic outfit a modern take. Give it an edgy look with some sassy Raybans and go dhoti style for pleats and you will transform into a punk princess. I however kept the pleats simple and opted for a more graceful look!

To drape this one, start tucking your saree with your right hand from your left side of the waist, wrap it around you till you make a full circle and reach back at your left side from where you started. Now with your left hand start making pleats using both your thumb finger and tiny finger as holder with your palms spread wide, you can also use a pleat maker if you are not confident using hands.

The Gujarati Style Saree
Basically the Front Pallu version is an updated Gujarati style saree that has exactly same style of saree pleats and pallu draping as Gujarati saree drape, the only difference being the pallu is rather kept loose in front rather than taking it back to tuck in at waist/back on the opposite site as we do in Gujarati drape shown below.

The Maharani Drape
Drape like an Indian Queen with this Maharani Drape! Its a Mermaid Saree drape with the pallu draped like a stole over your arms. It goes great with a Choli Saree and you can always take the pallu up on the opposite if you feel uncomfortable.

This is one of the stylish drape for a simple saree. You can prep up your plain saree by pairing with a beautiful desinger Choli and add some glamour with this Queenish Drape. Style it up with a beautiful Body chain or a Jadau Kamarbandh to give it the required Royal touch.

The Mumtaz Style Saree
Give a Bollywood twist to your Saree by following the footsteps of our Bollywood Dance Queen Mumtaz. Who not only made the”Twist” dance step popular in India, but also was known for her famous mermaid style saree drape. The USP of this double twist drape is that it makes you look slim and accentuates the hourglass figure, perfect for a Christmas party or date.

Once the pleats are done all you have to do is take the pallu and drape it around yourself into one or two tiers depending on the length of the saree and your comfort in walking 🙂 I did one tier here and than keep the pallu in pleats and tuck it on your left shoulder. spread the front part a little and you are ready with your mumtaz drape!
The Bengoli Drape
Bengoli’s are famous for two things, their sweets and their knack at draping sarees. Bengali style drape is by far the most popular saree drape and it can make and drab saree look gorgeous. The actual Bengali drape is an amalgamation of two different sarees but I have tried a semi-Bengoli look with a single one.

For the Bengoli drape take the pallu from back to your shoulder like we do in the Gujarati drape, pull a large part of pallu in front of you, take one corner of it and let it go under your shoulder of the opposite arm (left arm) and pin it on the opposite side just below the shoulder.
The Dulhan Drape

Give an authentic twist to your front pallu style by draping the pallu over your head to give you a desi Dulhan look! I totally love how I look in this dulhan drape and with the right kind of accessories this drape can make a beautiful dulhan saree out of any ordinary saree.

The Lehenga style Saree
The Lehenga drape is by far the easiest and fun way to drape your saree. This no pleat version of saree not only makes it effortless to drape but also comfortable to wear. Wrap your saree around in small loose pinchy pleats as if in a lehenga and take the pallu front. Thats it!

Take the pallu overhead to convert into bridal lehenga drape. Simple and Gorgeous!

The Simple Drape
No matter how quirky you get with your different saree drapes, nothing beats the elegance of the simple sari drape. Its quick, comfortable and graceful. This is a simple drape with a long pallu at back. Enough said.
