Sustainable Navratri/ Diwali fashion Series – Festive Fusion Look
This year Navratri fashion trends was all about Fusion outfits. Mixing up your ethnics with contemporary pieces from your wardrobe to create an Indo-western Navratri look had become the latest Navratri fashion trend. Fusion outfits were all over the place and they are here to stay. Festive fusion outfits for Diwali will be a mix of contemporary styles and ethnic fabrics. However, rather than buying new Fusion outfits, a sustainable way to celebrate Diwali would be to create these trendy festive fusion looks at home with your existing wardrobe. I have created a few Navratri fusion looks with my existing wardrobe using just a few ethnic pieces from my Navratri wardrobe. I called it my Navratri capsule wardrobe as these are the chaniya choli, jackets and dupatta I have persevered for years and they always come handy for mix and match during all nine days of Navratri.

Most of us follow the Navratri colours of 2019 for all the nine days of Navratri and we have already reached the 5th Day of Navratri which means we have reached half way through Navratri already. Now the thing is not all of us might have all the colours outfits for the Garba nights. But there is no need to buy new outfits just to adhere to the colours of Navratri. I for one, did not have a White Navratri dress, but I always make sure I create one White Navratri look with my existing wardrobe and its just really simple. Last year I created this beautiful White Chaniya choli look from my saree blouse and an underskirt of another dress. This year I have created this Navratri fusion outfit similarly from another festive outfit of mine. This same lehenga can be used as a festive fusion outfit for Diwali also.

Here I am wearing a structured skirt in white which is a part of the Saree gown that I got designed for my sister’s wedding last year. I paired it with a Red blouse that had a pre-stitched Saree pallu. It was to compliment my sisters Maroon gown for reception as I was her Maid of Honor.

It is one of those heavy outfits that stay as it is post the function and can be rarely worn elsewhere. I however have utilized the top and the bottom separately so many times. For the Festive Fusion Look, I used the structured skirt and paired it up with my recent off-shoulder white top that I bought from SHEIN for an impending trip. I layered it up with a gujarati jacket with kutchi embroidery to give it the required ethnic twist.

I have used lot of silver jewellery that is collected through all these years during garba. I have used one of my peacock pendents as a maang tikka on forehead. I have layered three neckpieces one as a chokar, one coin necklace and another one a longer necklace to cover the front part and accentuate the ethnic look. This gives a boho vibe to the Navratri fusion outfit.

I have used these Elephant hangings that basically come with a keychain to be hung at walls for decor. I have threaded them up with one of my thread necklace and created an ethnic latkan. If you plan to wear this fusion outfit for Diwali festival then you can go light on jewllery and use kundan earrings to create a more sophisticated look with this same white fusion lehenga.

Such festive fusion outfits are great for Diwali festival as they are clutter free. They are contemporary in style and yet they have a traditional touch to it. The best part about this festive fusion outfit is that we have swapped the dupatta with this ethnic colourful jacket making this outfit apt for festivals. This completes my festive Fusion look for the Day. A DIY White ghagra choli or DIY Festive Jacket lehenga for the upcoming Diwali festival. Keep watching this space for more such looks.
