How to style your Cotton Saree for Traditional function

I am a huge fan of this latest cotton Saree trend, because it means reviving your old handloom sarees and what’s better than styling your old cotton saree in new statement ways? I hope you guys have already seen my earlier post about tips on how to style a linen or Cotton Saree. Well a few months ago, I did this shoot with my mom’s saree (actually grand-mom’s saree, yup a family heirloom!) where I tried various saree draping patterns and blouse options with it, since my mom’s blouse in no way would fit me and any which ways, we have lost track of the original blouse that came with this cotton handloom saree. Well one of the most common ways to wear a saree is but obviously the “Nivi drape” or as more famously known as Saree pallu thrown over the left shoulder. This is also the most traditional drapes and I wear such drape during any religious ceremony mostly when I want to go all traditional.

Here I have draped the saree in just one minute, with quick bottom pleats (patli) and left the pallu unpleated thrown over my left shoulder in a nivi style saree drape. This drape is quick and easy and does not need a properly starched or pleated material.

My grand-mom’s saree is in the shade of beige and Wine Red (such magnificent colours!) Since I did not have any wine colour Blouse, I opted for a simple Black colour Blouse of another saree to pair with this one. The saree has a dull gold zari border and that matched exactly with the blouse border.

Since this was a total traditional look, I opted for pearl jhumka earrings and a pearl and kundan chokar neck-piece.
