Bollywood’s self-proclaimed Power-house, Vidya Balan Kapoor who is one of the jury members at the ongoing 66th Cannes film festival has already made a slpash at Cannes 2013. Our Desi Girl has been sporting all traditional outfits till now, all her outfits designed by one of the leading fashion designer’s in India, Sabyasachi!!
The Day-1 saw Vidya in an elaborate maroon, black and gold Sabyasachi lehenga, which looked like right out of the 20’s (no offence Sabya!) Some-how the earthy tone just did not work well with her (whoever said earthy tones suits Indian complexion has to be blamed here!!!). No doubt, Vidya tried her best to give away that sophisticated look, but to me she look a lot Older than her age in this Drab, for One, the full-sleeved full-length choli with that suffocating round-neck did no good to her beautiful figure.Number Two, her completely flat middle parting Bun made her look more of a Champu, if I may say so. (She should have flaunted her beautiful hair, I wished). And last but not the least that completely matching, in fact getting lost into her costume Batwa!! (Who takes a Batwa to an International film festival such as Cannes???)
I completely fail to understand how can one best designer of India and one of the beautiful actress of our Cinema put together can bring out such disastrous results!!
The Day-2 at Cannes 2013, was no different for Vidya in terms of her outfit while she attended the “Jeune and Jolie” premiere. It was a Sabyasachi Saree, yet agian in earthy colour and a completely covering round neck blouse with full sleeves. Even her hair-style was similar to that of Day-1 a middle parting Bun and statement Batwa!! The only refreshing change this time was the Navy Blue Necklace and Bindi she chose to contrast with the dull saree. It did up-lift her attire a little, but just a little. And that bigger-than-her-face Nathni was a downer hands down. I think She would have looked far better without that Nath, maroon neck-piece and Batwa. (Why in the hell would someone use two different coloured neck-piece when only one is sufficient ??)
Vidya sticked to her traditional Saree with multiple chained stoned necklace on another of her appearance on Day-2, however to our relief this time she chose to ditch that matching neck-piece and Batwa of hers!! (we Like!) The colour White was also little more refreshing than the Maroon and Creams, but sadly the tight middle parted Bun stayed!! 🙁 Giving us Nothing much to talk about her look here either.
Now this one of Vidya’s appearance was sure to talk about. Right from top to bottom Vidya looked like some Indian Maharani of 80’s. However classic and beautiful she looked, that surely did not compensate the fact that she wore this at the International film festival Cannes 2013 !!! I mean I know it was a celebration of 100 years of Cinema, by I could not digest why she turned into a morphed Anarkali meets Jodha-bai???
Well I did not want to sound critical but all Vidya’s appearances till today at Cannes were a complete downer for me!!!
